Project Overview
Delivery of a £3.4m sustainable new-build fire station in Worksop, Nottinghamshire.
YMD Boon was appointed to deliver a new £3.4m fire station in Worksop, replacing the outdated 1963 facility on Eastgate. Appointed from RIBA Stage 3b through to completion, our role covered detailed design, technical coordination, and lead designer responsibilities. The project provides a state-of-the-art base for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, designed to support modern operational and training requirements.
Working closely with stakeholders, we ensured all area schedules fully met user needs while maintaining a tight delivery programme. Our team managed planning conditions, prepared detailed technical drawings, and coordinated multidisciplinary packages, including regular clash detection to ensure seamless integration across all design elements.
The new facility includes fire engine bays, offices, meeting rooms, and a gymnasium, alongside a dedicated three-storey training tower and external compound store. Externally, the scheme features new parking provisions and landscaped areas, improving accessibility and site flow.
Sustainability was a key focus throughout the project. The building incorporates the latest renewable technologies and can self-generate up to 50% of its energy needs. Designed for efficiency, resilience, and long-term community value, the new Worksop Fire Station provides firefighters with the facilities and environment they need to deliver essential emergency services safely and effectively to the Bassetlaw area.
