Window Replacement Programme

YMD Boon were appointed to oversee a significant refurbishment project at Wyggeston and Queen Elizabeth I College in Leicester, delivering the replacement of approximately 330 windows and glazed doors across two internal courtyards at the college’s Regent Road campus. The project was successfully completed over a 12-week summer programme, ensuring zero disruption to the college’s day-to-day operations.

The works involved replacing the original single-glazed timber windows with new high-performance, double-glazed aluminium units. These upgrades have significantly improved the building’s thermal efficiency and long-term sustainability while enhancing comfort for staff and students.

Given the building’s local heritage status, the project required a sensitive approach to balance the preservation of its historic character with the introduction of modern energy-efficient technologies. Detailed planning and careful material selection ensured that the new windows complemented the building’s original architecture while achieving current performance standards.

This refurbishment forms part of the College’s wider programme of estate improvement and sustainability measures, helping to reduce carbon emissions and operational costs. The successful completion of this project highlights YMD Boon’s ability to deliver complex refurbishment works within tight timeframes.
