Sherwood Lodge Joint Headquarters

YMD Boon was appointed by Nottinghamshire Police and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service to design and deliver a new joint headquarters and training centre, alongside extensive remodelling and upgrades to existing accommodation. The project aimed to consolidate operations, improve collaboration, and create a modern, purpose-built environment that meets the needs of both emergency services.

The new facility includes a shared control room, interview suites, classrooms, healthcare and training facilities, breakout areas, lecture theatres, conferencing spaces, and a full sports hall with gym and staff amenities. We also provided parking for 195 vehicles and designed a new site entrance, all while ensuring 24/7 operations during construction.

Designed to BIM Level 2 standards, the scheme features flexible and technology-rich spaces that replicate real-life operational scenarios. Training rooms are linked to the control room and interview suites to allow live observation and simulation-based learning. Specialist spaces, such as healthcare and IT suites, were developed through close collaboration with end users to ensure functional layouts and compliance.

Working with up to ten stakeholder departments, we led multiple visioning workshops to capture key aspirations and ensure the final design supported both current operational needs and future adaptability. The result is a secure, collaborative, and future-ready headquarters that brings together two vital emergency services under one roof.
