Eastern Fire Station Refurbishment

YMD Boon were appointed to deliver extensive internal refurbishment and external improvements at Eastern Fire Station, modernising the facility to meet the operational needs of a contemporary blue light service. The project involved a full electrical rewiring, heating and distribution system replacements, and a series of external upgrades to improve efficiency, safety, and overall building performance.

A key challenge was maintaining operational continuity during the refurbishment. After a detailed assessment of options, the fire service was temporarily relocated to a nearby TA Centre, just one mile from the station. This solution ensured emergency response times and service delivery were unaffected throughout the construction period.

The scope of works included significant mechanical and electrical alterations, integrating new systems such as blue light controls, Tannoy systems, CCTV, and full interfacing with the existing Systel communication network. These upgrades were carefully coordinated to meet technical specifications and ensure seamless functionality upon reoccupation.

Ahead of the main works, YMD Boon also managed a separate boiler replacement project, strategically completed to minimise downtime and support efficient handover between phases. The result is a fully modernised, energy-efficient facility that supports the critical functions of the fire service while ensuring long-term reliability and operational resilience.

Building on this successful partnership, YMD Boon has delivered similar works at Western Fire Station and is currently managing projects at Southern Station, Central Fire Station, and the Billesdon Training Facility.
