The Spa at Breedon Priory

YMD Boon was appointed by Breedon Priory to design and deliver a new luxury leisure and spa complex in Melbourne, Derbyshire. The £4 million boutique spa is set within 24 acres of landscaped parkland and accommodates up to 40 guests, offering an exclusive, high-quality wellness experience.

The facility features four thermal cabins, including a herbal steam bath, Himalayan salt sauna, herbal sauna and aroma steam room, all overlooking the vitality pool in the spa garden. A relaxation pool with an infinity edge complements the main pool, while three experience showers, seven treatment rooms, and an on-site restaurant and café provide a full wellness experience for visitors.

Sustainability was a key focus of the project, with the spa designed to be 96% energy efficient and water supplied from its own borehole.

The project was in planning for over five years. To ensure client aspirations were fully realised, YMD Boon facilitated value engineering workshops, providing design options to balance quality, functionality, and budget. The design leveraged the existing site to create a destination spa that enhances the club’s leisure offering, attracts additional visitors, and delivers a premium wellness experience, combining architectural elegance, environmental efficiency, and innovative spa facilities.
