Conversion of locally listed London office building into 37 modern apartments.
YMD Boon was appointed by a private developer to convert an existing office building into 37 residential apartments in London.
The building is locally listed and possesses significant architectural character, which made the planning process particularly complex. As a result, the local authority applied conservation policies to ensure the building’s historic features and appearance were appropriately protected throughout the development process.
We supported the client through the planning stage by preparing clear and comprehensive design information and attending design review meetings with planning officers. This collaborative approach helped address planning concerns and ensured the proposals were sensitive to the building’s character while achieving the client’s development objectives. The project was developed using Autodesk Revit within a BIM environment. This enabled the design team to produce detailed 3D visuals and walkthroughs from the early stages, which proved valuable during planning consultations and helped stakeholders clearly understand the proposed transformation.
Throughout the design phase, we held regular reviews with key stakeholders to gather feedback and incorporate the client’s requirements. Careful consideration was also given to budget constraints, resulting in a scheme that successfully transformed the former office block into a collection of spacious, contemporary residential apartments.
