Roof Replacement

YMD Boon was appointed by Cobden Primary School, part of Bradgate Education Partnership, to deliver a full roof replacement to its Victorian-style building featuring dual-pitched slate roofs. The existing slate coverings had been incorrectly specified and were in poor condition, contributing to significant heat loss. Slumped insulation within the roof voids further reduced thermal performance, while visible water ingress in multiple areas confirmed the roof had reached the end of its serviceable life.

We successfully secured Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) funding for the project and provided multidisciplinary services from inception through to completion. Thomas Cassie & Sons were appointed as the main contractor to undertake the works.

The project involved stripping the existing roof coverings back to the rafters and installing a new, high-performance roofing system. Reconstituted slates were selected to maintain the building’s traditional appearance, while upgraded fibreglass insulation significantly improved thermal efficiency and overall building performance.

The completed scheme has not only preserved the architectural character of the historic school building but has also enhanced energy efficiency, reduced heat loss, and provided a durable, long-term roofing solution that will benefit pupils and staff for years to come.
